Simultaneous interpreting course

Simultaneous interpreting is not "translating very fast". It is a separate skill: listening and speaking at the same time, lagging just far enough to grasp the thought, and holding it while the speaker has already moved on.

Who it is for

Who the course suits

01

Working interpreters

Those already doing consecutive work who want to move into the booth.

02

Translators

The language is there; what is missing is the technique of working aloud in real time.

03

Those who have tried

Tried the booth and stopped at split attention, the most common point where people give up.

Content

What we teach

01

Split attention

The core exercise: listening to the next sentence while speaking the previous one. Without it the other techniques do not work.

02

Lag and pace

How far to stay behind the speaker to understand, and how to recover when the pace rises.

03

Working in pairs

Switching every 20–30 minutes, prompting your partner, numbers and names on paper, conduct in the booth.

04

Subject preparation

How to gather the terminology of an event in a day or two, learn names and titles, and read a programme so it works for you.

05

Unexpected situations

The speaker reads from a script, the sound drops, a talk goes off programme, a joke or a quotation — what to do in each case.

06

Remote platforms

Online booths and hybrid events: different sound, different delay, a different way of agreeing with your partner.

Format

How the classes run

01

On the agency's equipment

The agency owns simultaneous interpreting equipment, so classes run in a booth with a console and a headset, not with earphones beside a laptop.

02

Small groups

Simultaneous interpreting cannot be learned in a crowd: everyone has to put in their own hours in the booth.

03

Material from real events

We train on what an interpreter actually meets: uneven pace, difficult delivery, sector terminology.

Programme status

The programme is being updated

Enrolment is paused while we revise the course for the way the profession works today: hybrid events, remote booths, AI-based tools. Once the programme is ready we will write to everyone who left their details.
